Coroner: Air Bag Played Role in DeathPetite Teen Wasn't Wearing a Seat Belt MINNEAPOLIS, Posted 7:32 a.m. November 13, 1997 -- Authorities tell The Associated Press that an air bag's impact caused significant injuries to a girl who died when her car rear-ended a minivan.
Jennifer Kuligowski (pictured), 17, of Brooklyn Park died after her car's air bag struck her last week while she drove with a friend. (Full Story) The Hennepin County Medical Examiner said Wednesday that the air bag, the girl's short stature and her failure to use a seat belt played a role in her death. Kuligowski was 3 feet 11 inches tall. Kuligowski was driving the now-damaged, two-door Toyota Celica that's pictured here. She used extension devices to reach the brake and acceleration pedals inside her car.
A passenger in her car suffered minor injuries. The driver of the minivan was not injured. He drove away from the crash, WCCO-TV said. Background:
